Sports Premium

General Information

Sports Premium funding is jointly provided by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport, and provides money directly to primary schools to spend on improving the quality of sport and PE for all their children.

Purpose of the funding

Schools have to spend the sport funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, but they have the freedom to choose how they do this. As a condition of the Grant, all maintained schools must publish information about the use of the Sport Premium on their website by the end of each summer term or by July 31st each year at the latest.

From 2025, all primary schools are required to complete a digital expenditure reporting return.

The return outlines:

• how the school has used its PE and sport premium
• the impact the premium has had on achieving the aims and objectives of the funding
